You would have to review a video tape of the League of Women Voter's County Council Forum to hear what I completely said about affordable housing!

"...I support enhancing our current home OWNERSHIP programs because home ownership is more important for our community than subsidized rentals!"

Home ownership brings to our community a more stable population that will care for the community in better ways than transient populations will.

You can quote me COMPLETELY on that!

Here's my simple comment on increasing housing density in Columbia or anywhere in Howard County:

If high-density development is supposed to be so wonderful, then why aren't cities like Baltimore and Silver Spring better places to live than Columbia?

"Ballot Initiative - 2006"

The most controversial issue facing residents of Columbia is the Town Center Master Plan. All plans presented to the public to date still include 5,500 more residential homes and 5.2 million square feet of commercial space. It's now being reported in the Baltimore Examiner that 90% of these residential units will be apartments. And, my opponent wants to make 25% of them subsidized and low-income rentals (Reference: PATH Forum, October 8, 2006).

I am a proponent of community planning, but reject the current plan for Town Center due to the proposed levels of residential and commercial development. This is one of the main reasons I was motivated to enter the race for the District 4 County Council seat.

I don’t think the typical Columbia resident chose to live here because they anticipated a city or city-like environment would be created in Town Center. The Howard County Department of Planning & Zoning and General Growth Properties are now reportedly pulling back from the idea of such high-density development.

I urge the residents of Columbia and District 4 to NOT be fooled again by the tactics of the development community – things will return to pre-election status unless we bring a new type of leader to the County Council and the Zoning Board!
